Naomi Wolf: "The Coup Has Happened"--Now What?
An articulate bestselling author explains why she believes Bush and Cheney have positioned themselves to retain executive power should Americans voters give the White House to Obama instead of McCain in November. Watch her acquit herself of charges of tin-hat conspiratorial hooey in the video below.
The emotionally strength and honesty of bestselling author Naomi Wolf makes her certain that a coup has occurred in America.
Since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, she argues, George Bush and Dick Cheney, using secret laws embedded in unrelated reams of bills and secret signing statements, have appropriated dictatorial powers comparable to those commandeered by Adolph Hitler following the 1933 Reichstag Fire, a watershed event in modern Germany history that recent forensic evidence indicates was Nazi-staged terrorism.
In her 2007 book The End of America (see Fox News interview with Bill O'Reilly stand-in), Wolfs describes ten political patterns that precede a dictatorship; she is convinced since 9/11 America has manifested all of them.
Many Americans who encountered her incendiary prose were convinced she knew of what she spoke. Now fearful, the readers would regularly ask her "What do we do now?". She answers the question in her latest book Give Me Liberty: A Handbook for American Revolutionaries.
In the interview below, taped 4 October 2008 at KEXP 90.3 FM in Seattle, Wolf cobbles together some of the evidence thematically linking her last two books on Americanized fascism; some who risk hearing her allegations will feel the urge to flip on CNN or Fox News for the current batch of White House hopefuls to reassure them "everything is just fine."
But viewers who are less faint of heart and reality-based have had eight years to prepare them for her truth. They may even find her to be prescient as she lays out concrete steps Bush and Cheney have taken to avoid a peaceful transfer of executive power if next month's presidential elections isn't to their liking.
How else can treasonous felons such as these avoid arrest and a federal trial?
Related: On 11 October 2007, Wolf gave this 48-minute lecture on her book The End of America at Kane Hall on the University of Washington campus.
Wolf offers below some provocative commentary on GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin--and not John McCain--as "the muse of the coming police state."

I realized early on with horror what I was seeing in Governor Palin: the continuation of the Rove-Cheney cabal, but this time without restraints. I heard her echo Bush 2000 soundbites ("the heart of America is on display") and realized Bush's speechwriters were writing her -- not McCain's -- speeches. I heard her tell George Bush's lies -- not McCain's -- to the American people, linking 9/11 to Iraq. I heard her make fun of Barack Obama for wanting to prevent the torture of prisoners -- this is Rove-Cheney's enthusiastic S and M, not McCain's, who, though he shamefully colluded in the 2006 Military Tribunals Act, is also a former prisoner of war and wrote an eloquent Newsweek piece in 2005 opposing torture. I saw that she was even styled by the same skillful stylist (neutral lipstick, matte makeup, dark colors) who turned Katharine Harris from a mall rat into a stateswoman and who styles all the women in the Bush orbit -- but who does not bother to style Cindy McCain....
